西川春洞は、江戸日本橋に生まれた書家・書道教育者。中国の書を幅広く学び、独自の書風「春洞流」を築いた。明治の漢字書壇にあって、多くのすぐれた門人を育てたことで知られる。その門下からは数多くの書家が輩出した。子は、戦後の書壇を主導した書家・西川寧。

Studying Chinese calligraphy broadly, he established a manner of his own, the “Shundō school.” In the kanji calligraphy world of the Meiji era he is known for training many fine pupils, and a great number of calligraphers emerged from his school. His son was Nishikawa Yasushi, the calligrapher who led the postwar calligraphy world.

니시카와 슌도는 에도 니혼바시에서 태어난 서예가·서예 교육자이다. 중국 서예를 폭넓게 배워 독자적인 서풍 「슌도류」를 세웠다. 메이지의 한자 서단에서 뛰어난 문인을 많이 길러낸 것으로 알려져 있으며, 그 문하에서 수많은 서예가가 배출되었다. 아들은 전후 서단을 주도한 서예가 니시카와 야스시이다.

Nishikawa Shundo était un calligraphe et pédagogue de la calligraphie né à Nihonbashi, à Edo. Sein Sohn war Nishikawa Yasushi, der Kalligraf, der die Kalligrafie-Welt der Nachkriegszeit anführte.
