若林奮は、東京に生まれた彫刻家。鉄を主な素材に、自然と人間の関わりを深く見つめる思索的な作品を制作した。森や大気、土地といった自然のなかで起きていることを観察し、それを立体やドローイングへと置きかえていった。一見地味だが、長い時間と思考の積み重ねを感じさせる作風で知られる。後進の育成にもあたり、《大気中の緑色に属するもの》などの作品を残した。

Wakabayashi Isamu was a sculptor born in Tokyo. Working chiefly in iron, he made contemplative works that gazed deeply into the relationship between nature and humanity. Observing what occurs within nature—forests, the atmosphere, the land—he transposed it into three-dimensional works and drawings. He is known for a style that, though unassuming at first glance, conveys the accumulation of long time and thought. He also devoted himself to training younger artists and left works such as Taiki-chū no Midori-iro ni Zoku suru Mono (That Which Belongs to the Green in the Atmosphere).

Wakabayashi Isamu war ein in Tōkyō geborener Bildhauer. Vor allem in Eisen arbeitend, schuf er besinnliche Werke, die das Verhältnis von Natur und Mensch tief betrachteten. Indem er beobachtete, was sich in der Natur ereignet – in Wäldern, in der Atmosphäre, im Boden –, übertrug er es in dreidimensionale Werke und Zeichnungen. Bekannt ist er für einen Stil, der auf den ersten Blick unscheinbar wirkt, doch die Anhäufung langer Zeit und langen Nachdenkens vermittelt. Auch widmete er sich der Ausbildung jüngerer Künstler und hinterließ Werke wie „Taiki-chū no Midori-iro ni Zoku suru Mono“ (Was zum Grün in der Atmosphäre gehört).
