高田博厚は、石川県に生まれた彫刻家・文筆家。ほぼ独学で彫刻を学び、長くフランスに滞在した。ロマン・ロランやガンジーをはじめ、同時代の思想家・芸術家らと交流し、その肖像彫刻を数多く手がけた。人物の内面や精神性をとらえようとした頭像で知られる。哲学や芸術をめぐる随筆も多く著し、文筆家としても活動した。埼玉県東松山市には、その彫刻群が街路に並ぶ。

Takata Hiroatsu was a sculptor and writer born in Ishikawa Prefecture. Largely self-taught in sculpture, he spent many years in France. He associated with thinkers and artists of his time, including Romain Rolland and Mahatma Gandhi, and produced numerous portrait sculptures of them. He is known for his portrait heads, which sought to capture the inner life and spirit of his subjects. He also wrote many essays on philosophy and art, active as a writer as well. In Higashimatsuyama, Saitama Prefecture, a group of his sculptures lines the streets.
