静岡県の生まれ。1947年に東京物理学校数学科を卒業し、1950年に東京工業大学建築学科へ学士入学、1953年に卒業した。在学中、清家清に師事した。同大学の助手を経て1962年に助教授、1970年に教授となり、1986年に定年退官した。1967年に『日本建築の空間構成の研究』で工学博士の学位を取得した。白の家（東京都杉並区、1966年竣工、2008年移築）、上原通りの住宅（1976年竣工）、東京工業大学百年記念館（東京都目黒区、1987年竣工）などを設計した。1972年に「未完の家以後の一連の作品」で日本建築学会賞、2005年に日本建築学会大賞を受賞した。2006年、81歳で没した。

Shinohara Kazuo was born in Shizuoka Prefecture. He graduated from the Department of Mathematics, Tokyo College of Physics, in 1947, entered the Department of Architecture at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1950 through its admission route for those already holding a bachelor's degree, and graduated in 1953. During his studies he studied under Seike Kiyoshi. He served as an assistant at the university, becoming an associate professor in 1962 and a professor in 1970, and retired in 1986. In 1967 he received a doctorate in engineering for his research "A Study of the Spatial Composition of Japanese Architecture." He designed the House in White (Suginami Ward, Tokyo; completed 1966, relocated 2008), the House in Uehara (completed 1976), and the Tokyo Institute of Technology Centennial Hall (Meguro Ward, Tokyo; completed 1987), among others. In 1972 he received the Architectural Institute of Japan Prize for "a series of works following The Unfinished House," and the Architectural Institute of Japan Grand Prize in 2005. He died in 2006 at the age of 81.

Shinohara Kazuo est né dans la préfecture de Shizuoka. Diplômé du département de mathématiques du École de physique de Tokyo en 1947, il intègre en 1950 le département d'architecture de l'Institut de technologie de Tokyo, dont il sort diplômé en 1953. Pendant ses études, il étudie auprès de Seike Kiyoshi. Il devient assistant à l'université, puis professeur associé en 1962 et professeur titulaire en 1970, avant de prendre sa retraite en 1986. En 1967, il obtient un doctorat en ingénierie pour ses recherches « Étude sur la composition spatiale de l'architecture japonaise ». Il conçoit notamment la Maison blanche (arrondissement de Suginami, Tokyo ; achevée en 1966, déplacée en 2008), la Maison d'Uehara-dori (achevée en 1976), et le Hall du centenaire de l'Institut de technologie de Tokyo (arrondissement de Meguro, Tokyo ; achevé en 1987). En 1972, il reçoit le prix de l'Architectural Institute of Japan pour « une série d'œuvres suivant La Maison inachevée », puis le grand prix de l'Architectural Institute of Japan en 2005. Il meurt en 2006 à l'âge de 81 ans.

Shinohara Kazuo wurde in der Präfektur Shizuoka geboren. Er schloss 1947 die Mathematikabteilung des Tokioter Physik-Kollegs ab, trat 1950 in die Architekturabteilung des Tokyo Institute of Technology ein und schloss dort 1953 ab. Während seines Studiums lernte er bei Seike Kiyoshi. Er war Assistent an der Universität, wurde 1962 außerordentlicher Professor und 1970 ordentlicher Professor, und trat 1986 in den Ruhestand. 1967 erhielt er für seine Forschung „Studie zur räumlichen Komposition der japanischen Architektur“ einen Doktortitel in Ingenieurwissenschaften. Er entwarf unter anderem das Weiße Haus (Bezirk Suginami, Tokio; fertiggestellt 1966, 2008 versetzt), das Haus in Uehara-dori (fertiggestellt 1976) und die Hundertjahrfeier-Halle des Tokyo Institute of Technology (Bezirk Meguro, Tokio; fertiggestellt 1987). 1972 erhielt er den Preis des Architectural Institute of Japan für „eine Werkreihe im Anschluss an Das unvollendete Haus“, 2005 den Großen Preis des Architectural Institute of Japan. Er starb 2006 im Alter von 81 Jahren.
