京都市の生まれ。少年期を神戸で過ごした。1941年に東京美術学校建築科、1943年に東京工業大学を卒業し、在学中は建築家・谷口吉郎に学んだ。東京工業大学に残って助手・助教授を務め、1962年に教授となった。のちに東京藝術大学教授も兼任し、同大学美術学部長も務めた。代表作の「私の家」(1954年竣工、2017年に登録有形文化財に登録)をはじめ、森博士の家(1951年)、斎藤助教授の家(1952年)など、小さな住宅の設計で知られる。1981年から日本建築学会会長を務め、篠原一男・林昌二・林雅子ら多くの建築家を育てた。2005年、86歳で没した。
Seike Kiyoshi was born in Kyoto. He spent his boyhood in Kobe. He graduated from the Architecture Department of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts in 1941 and from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1943, studying under architect Yoshiro Taniguchi during his student years. He remained at Tokyo Institute of Technology, serving as research assistant and associate professor, and became a professor in 1962. He later also held a concurrent professorship at Tokyo University of the Arts, where he served as dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts. He is known for the design of small houses, including his representative work "My House" (Watashi no Ie, completed 1954, listed as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property in 2017), as well as the Dr. Mori House (1951) and the Associate Professor Saito House (1952). He served as president of the Architectural Institute of Japan from 1981 and trained many architects, including Kazuo Shinohara, Shoji Hayashi, and Masako Hayashi. He died in 2005 at the age of 86.

교토시 출신이다. 소년기를 고베에서 보냈다. 1941년 도쿄미술학교 건축과, 1943년 도쿄공업대학을 졸업했으며, 재학 중 건축가 다니구치 요시로에게 배웠다. 도쿄공업대학에 남아 조수·조교수를 지냈고, 1962년 교수가 되었다. 이후 도쿄예술대학 교수도 겸임하며 동 대학 미술학부장을 지냈다. 대표작 「나의 집(私の家)」(1954년 준공, 2017년 등록유형문화재로 등록)을 비롯하여 모리 박사의 집(1951년), 사이토 조교수의 집(1952년) 등 소규모 주택 설계로 알려져 있다. 1981년부터 일본건축학회 회장을 지냈으며, 시노하라 가즈오·하야시 쇼지·하야시 마사코 등 많은 건축가를 길러냈다. 2005년 86세로 별세했다.
Né à Kyoto, il passe son enfance à Kobe. Diplômé du département d'architecture de l'École des beaux-arts de Tokyo en 1941, puis de l'Institut de technologie de Tokyo en 1943, il étudie durant ses années universitaires auprès de l'architecte Yoshiro Taniguchi. Il reste à l'Institut de technologie de Tokyo comme assistant puis professeur associé, avant de devenir professeur titulaire en 1962. Il occupe ensuite également un poste de professeur à l'université des Arts de Tokyo, où il dirige la faculté des Beaux-Arts. Il est connu pour ses petites maisons, notamment son œuvre emblématique « Ma maison » (Watashi no Ie, achevée en 1954, inscrite comme bien culturel tangible enregistré en 2017), ainsi que la maison du docteur Mori (1951) et la maison du professeur associé Saito (1952). Président de l'Architectural Institute of Japan à partir de 1981, il forme de nombreux architectes, dont Kazuo Shinohara, Shoji Hayashi et Masako Hayashi. Il meurt en 2005 à l'âge de 86 ans.

Er schloss 1941 die Architekturabteilung der Kunstakademie Tokio und 1943 das Tokyo Institute of Technology ab, wo er während seines Studiums bei dem Architekten Yoshiro Taniguchi lernte. Er blieb am Tokyo Institute of Technology als Assistent und außerordentlicher Professor und wurde 1962 ordentlicher Professor. Später hatte er zugleich eine Professur an der Universität der Künste Tokio inne, wo er Dekan der Fakultät für Bildende Kunst war. Bekannt ist er für den Entwurf kleiner Wohnhäuser, darunter sein Hauptwerk „Mein Haus“ (Watashi no Ie, fertiggestellt 1954, 2017 als registriertes materielles Kulturgut eingetragen) sowie das Haus von Dr. Mori (1951) und das Haus von Assistenzprofessor Saito (1952). Ab 1981 war er Präsident des Architectural Institute of Japan und bildete zahlreiche Architekten aus, darunter Kazuo Shinohara, Shoji Hayashi und Masako Hayashi. Er starb 2005 im Alter von 86 Jahren.
