名取洋之助は、東京に生まれた写真家・編集者。ドイツで写真を学び、現地の報道写真の手法を身につけて帰国した。写真と文章を組み合わせて主題を伝える「報道写真」を日本に広め、対外向けのグラフ誌『NIPPON』を創刊した。木村伊兵衛らと日本工房を組織し、多くの写真家やデザイナーを育てた。戦後は岩波写真文庫の編集を手がけ、写真による情報伝達に力を注いだ。

Natori Yonosuke was a photographer and editor born in Tokyo. He studied photography in Germany, where he absorbed the methods of documentary press photography before returning home. He introduced to Japan the practice of documentary (press) photography, which conveys a theme by combining images and text, and founded the outward-facing pictorial magazine Nippon. With Kimura Ihei and others he organized Nippon Kōbō (Japan Studio), training many photographers and designers. After the war he edited the Iwanami Photographic Library, devoting himself to the communication of information through photography.

Natori Yonosuke était un photographe et éditeur né à Tokyo. Il étudia la photographie en Allemagne, où il assimila les méthodes du photojournalisme avant de rentrer au Japon. Il y diffusa la pratique du photojournalisme documentaire, qui transmet un sujet en associant images et texte, et fonda la revue illustrée à vocation internationale Nippon. Natori Yonosuke war ein in Tokio geborener Fotograf und Redakteur.
