前田青邨は、岐阜県中津川に生まれた日本画家。梶田半古に学び、日本美術院を舞台に、歴史上の人物や物語を主題とした作品を多く描いた。大和絵など日本の古典の伝統をふまえつつ、明快な構図と装飾性をそなえた新しい歴史画を追求した。1922年には小林古径とともにヨーロッパへ渡り、大英博物館で東洋の古画を模写した。合戦に敗れて洞窟に身を潜める源頼朝の一行を描いた代表作《洞窟の頼朝》は重要文化財に指定されている。晩年には法隆寺金堂壁画の再現や高松塚古墳壁画の模写など、文化財の保存にも力を尽くした。1955年に文化勲章を受けた。
Maeda Seison was a Nihonga painter born in Nakatsugawa, Gifu Prefecture. He studied under Kajita Hanko and, with the Nihon Bijutsuin (Japan Fine Arts Academy) as his stage, painted many works on historical figures and tales. Building on the traditions of the Japanese classics, including yamato-e, he pursued a new kind of historical painting endowed with lucid composition and decorative quality. In 1922 he traveled to Europe with Kobayashi Kokei and copied old East Asian paintings at the British Museum. His representative work Dōkutsu no Yoritomo (Yoritomo in a Cave), depicting Minamoto no Yoritomo and his party hiding in a cave after defeat in battle, is designated an Important Cultural Property. In his later years he devoted himself to the preservation of cultural properties, including the re-creation of the wall paintings of the Kondō at Hōryū-ji and the copying of the murals of the Takamatsuzuka Tomb. He received the Order of Culture in 1955.

마에다 세이손은 기후현 나카쓰가와에서 태어난 일본화가이다. 가지타 한코에게 배웠으며, 일본미술원을 무대로 역사 속 인물과 이야기를 주제로 한 작품을 많이 그렸다. 야마토에 등 일본 고전의 전통을 토대로 명쾌한 구도와 장식성을 갖춘 새로운 역사화를 추구했다. 1922년에는 고바야시 고케이와 함께 유럽으로 건너가 대영박물관에서 동양의 옛 그림을 모사했다. 전투에서 패해 동굴에 몸을 숨긴 미나모토노 요리토모 일행을 그린 대표작 《동굴의 요리토모》는 중요문화재로 지정되어 있다. 만년에는 호류지 금당 벽화의 재현과 다카마쓰즈카 고분 벽화의 모사 등 문화재 보존에도 힘을 쏟았다. 1955년에 문화훈장을 받았다.
Maeda Seison était un peintre nihonga né à Nakatsugawa, dans la préfecture de Gifu. Élève de Kajita Hanko, il peignit, avec le Nihon Bijutsuin (Académie japonaise des beaux-arts) pour scène, de nombreuses œuvres sur des figures et des récits historiques. S'appuyant sur les traditions des classiques japonais, dont le yamato-e, il poursuivit une nouvelle peinture d'histoire dotée d'une composition lucide et d'une qualité décorative. En 1922, il se rendit en Europe avec Kobayashi Kokei et copia d'anciennes peintures d'Asie orientale au British Museum. Son œuvre majeure Dōkutsu no Yoritomo (Yoritomo dans une grotte), représentant Minamoto no Yoritomo et sa suite cachés dans une grotte après une défaite, est classée Bien culturel important. Dans ses dernières années, il se consacra à la conservation des biens culturels, notamment à la reconstitution des peintures murales du Kondō du Hōryū-ji et à la copie des peintures du tombeau de Takamatsuzuka. Il reçut l'Ordre de la Culture en 1955.

Maeda Seison war ein Nihonga-Maler, der in Nakatsugawa in der Präfektur Gifu geboren wurde. Er studierte bei Kajita Hanko und malte mit dem Nihon Bijutsuin (Japanische Akademie der bildenden Künste) als Wirkungsstätte viele Werke über historische Gestalten und Erzählungen. Aufbauend auf den Traditionen der japanischen Klassiker, darunter der Yamato-e-Malerei, verfolgte er eine neue Art der Historienmalerei, ausgestattet mit klarer Komposition und dekorativer Qualität. 1922 reiste er mit Kobayashi Kokei nach Europa und kopierte im Britischen Museum alte ostasiatische Malereien. Sein Hauptwerk „Dōkutsu no Yoritomo“ (Yoritomo in einer Höhle), das Minamoto no Yoritomo und sein Gefolge zeigt, wie sie sich nach einer Niederlage in einer Höhle verbergen, ist als Wichtiges Kulturgut eingestuft. In seinen späteren Jahren widmete er sich der Bewahrung von Kulturgütern, darunter der Wiederherstellung der Wandmalereien des Kondō von Hōryū-ji und der Nachbildung der Wandmalereien des Takamatsuzuka-Grabes. 1955 erhielt er den Kulturorden.
