Born in Hokkaido, Kuwahara Suiho was a calligrapher. He studied under Hidai Tenrai and produced kanji calligraphy within that lineage. Inheriting Tenrai's teaching that valued the calligraphic study of the classics, he pursued calligraphy with a sure hand. He taught at the Shogakuin and long engaged in the education and dissemination of kanji calligraphy. He was known for refined calligraphy rooted in the classics.
