熊谷恒子は、京都府に生まれたかな書家。家庭にあって書を学び、女性のかな書家として展覧会の書で活躍した。平安の古筆に学んだ、優美で品位あるかな書を制作した。皇室の用にも携わったと伝えられ、女性書家の先達の一人として知られる。東京・大田区には記念館がある。

Kumagai Tsuneko was a kana calligrapher born in Kyoto Prefecture. She learned calligraphy within the home and was active in exhibition calligraphy as a woman calligrapher. She produced graceful and dignified kana calligraphy learned from the Heian kohitsu. She is said to have served the Imperial Household as well and is known as one of the forerunners among women calligraphers. A memorial museum stands in Ōta City, Tokyo.

구마가이 쓰네코는 교토부에서 태어난 가나 서예가이다. 가정에서 서예를 배워 여성 가나 서예가로서 전람회 서예에서 활약했다. 헤이안의 고히쓰에서 배운 우아하고 기품 있는 가나서를 제작했다. 황실의 일에도 관여했다고 전해지며, 여성 서예가의 선구자 가운데 한 사람으로 알려져 있다. 도쿄 오타구에 기념관이 있다.

Kumagai Tsuneko war eine in der Präfektur Kyōto geborene Kana-Kalligrafin. Sie erlernte die Kalligrafie im häuslichen Umfeld und war als Kalligrafin in der Ausstellungskalligrafie tätig. Sie schuf eine an den Heian-Kohitsu gelernte anmutige und würdevolle Kana-Kalligrafie. Überliefert ist, dass sie auch für den kaiserlichen Hof tätig war, und sie ist als eine der Wegbereiterinnen unter den Kalligrafinnen bekannt. In Ōta in Tokio steht ein ihr gewidmetes Gedächtnismuseum.
