河野鷹思は、東京神田に生まれたグラフィックデザイナー。戦前、松竹で映画の宣伝美術を手がけたのをはじめ、ポスターや広告、舞台美術、絵本まで、幅広い分野で活躍した。機知に富んだ発想と洗練された造形で知られる。戦後は日本宣伝美術会の結成に加わり、大学でデザイン教育にもあたった。日本のグラフィックデザインの草創期を支えた一人とされる。

A graphic designer born in Kanda, Tokyo. Beginning with the publicity art he created for films at Shochiku before the war, he was active across a wide range of fields—posters, advertising, stage design, and picture books. He was known for his witty conceptions and refined sense of form. After the war he took part in founding the Nissenbi (Japan Advertising Artists Club) and taught design at university. He is regarded as one of those who supported the formative years of graphic design in Japan.

도쿄 간다에서 태어난 그래픽 디자이너이다. 전쟁 전 쇼치쿠에서 영화 선전 미술을 맡은 것을 비롯해 포스터와 광고, 무대 미술, 그림책까지 폭넓은 분야에서 활약했다. 기지 넘치는 발상과 세련된 조형으로 알려졌다. 전후에는 일선미(일본선전미술회) 결성에 참여했고 대학에서 디자인 교육에도 힘썼다. 일본 그래픽 디자인의 초창기를 떠받친 인물 가운데 하나로 꼽힌다.

Graphiste né à Kanda, à Tokyo. À commencer par l'art publicitaire qu'il réalisa pour les films de la Shochiku avant la guerre, il fut actif dans un large éventail de domaines : affiches, publicité, décors de scène et livres illustrés. Il était connu pour ses conceptions pleines d'esprit et son sens raffiné de la forme. Après la guerre, il participa à la fondation du Nissenbi (Japan Advertising Artists Club) et enseigna le design à l'université. Il est considéré comme l'un de ceux qui soutinrent les années pionnières du graphisme au Japon.

Empezando por el arte publicitario que realizó para las películas de Shochiku antes de la guerra, fue activo en un amplio abanico de campos: carteles, publicidad, escenografía y libros ilustrados. Era conocido por sus ideas ingeniosas y su refinado sentido de la forma. Tras la guerra participó en la fundación del Nissenbi (Japan Advertising Artists Club) y enseñó diseño en la universidad. Se le considera uno de quienes sostuvieron los años fundacionales del diseño gráfico en Japón.

Grafikdesigner, geboren in Kanda in Tokio. Beginnend mit der Werbegrafik, die er vor dem Krieg für Filme des Studios Shochiku schuf, war er in einem weiten Feld tätig – Plakate, Werbung, Bühnenbild und Bilderbücher. Bekannt war er für seine geistreichen Einfälle und sein feines Formgefühl. Nach dem Krieg beteiligte er sich an der Gründung der Nissenbi (Japan Advertising Artists Club) und lehrte Design an der Universität. Er gilt als einer derjenigen, die die Anfangsjahre des Grafikdesigns in Japan trugen.
