川端玉章は、京都に生まれた日本画家。円山派の中島来章に師事し、写生を重んじる画風を学んだ。江戸に出てからは狩野派を学び、高橋由一やワーグマンに油絵も習った。のち円山四条派の伝統に立ち返り、写生に西洋画の手法も取り入れた。新設の東京美術学校に教授として招かれ、1896年には帝室技芸員となった。1909年には川端画学校を開いて後進を育て、門下から平福百穂や結城素明が出た。《墨梅》《深山猛虎図》などで知られる。
Kawabata Gyokusho was a Nihonga painter born in Kyoto. He studied under Nakajima Raishō of the Maruyama school and learned a manner that prized sketching from life. After moving to Edo he studied the Kanō school and learned oil painting under Takahashi Yuichi and Charles Wirgman. Later he returned to the tradition of the Maruyama-Shijō school, incorporating Western techniques into his work from life. Invited as a professor to the newly founded Tokyo Fine Arts School, he was named an Imperial Household Artist in 1896. In 1909 he opened the Kawabata Painting School and trained later artists, among whom were Hirafuku Hyakusui and Yūki Somei. He is known for works such as Ink Plum and Fierce Tiger in the Deep Mountains.

가와바타 교쿠쇼는 교토에서 태어난 니혼가 화가이다. 마루야마파의 나카지마 라이쇼에게 사사하여 사생을 중시하는 화풍을 배웠다. 에도로 나온 뒤에는 가노파를 배우고, 다카하시 유이치와 와그먼에게 유화도 익혔다. 이후 마루야마·시조파의 전통으로 돌아가 사생에 서양화의 기법도 받아들였다. 신설된 도쿄미술학교에 교수로 초빙되었으며, 1896년 제실기예원이 되었다. 1909년에는 가와바타 화학교를 열어 후진을 길렀고, 문하에서 히라후쿠 햐쿠스이와 유키 소메이가 나왔다. 《묵매》 《심산맹호도》 등으로 알려져 있다.
Kawabata Gyokusho était un peintre nihonga né à Kyoto. Il étudia auprès de Nakajima Raishō, de l'école Maruyama, et apprit une manière fondée sur le dessin d'après nature. Après s'être établi à Edo, il étudia l'école Kanō et apprit la peinture à l'huile auprès de Takahashi Yuichi et de Charles Wirgman. Il revint ensuite à la tradition de l'école Maruyama-Shijō, intégrant des techniques occidentales à son travail d'après nature. Invité comme professeur à la toute nouvelle École des beaux-arts de Tokyo, il fut nommé Artiste de la Maison impériale en 1896. En 1909, il ouvrit l'École de peinture Kawabata et forma de futurs artistes, parmi lesquels Hirafuku Hyakusui et Yūki Somei. On le connaît pour des œuvres telles que Prunier à l'encre et Tigre féroce dans les montagnes profondes.

Kawabata Gyokusho war ein Nihonga-Maler, geboren in Kyoto. Er studierte bei Nakajima Raishō von der Maruyama-Schule und lernte eine Malweise, die das Zeichnen nach der Natur hochhielt. Bekannt ist er für Werke wie „Pflaumenzweig in Tusche“ und „Wilder Tiger in den tiefen Bergen“.
