平福百穂は、秋田県角館に生まれた日本画家・歌人。画家の父に学んだのち上京し、川端玉章に入門した。同門の結城素明らと无声会を、のちに鏑木清方や素明らと金鈴社を結んだ。庶民の生活や自然を題材に、西洋画のデッサンも取り入れた写生味のある清新な日本画を描いた。古典に取材した《豫譲》は文展で特選となった。アララギ派の歌人としても活動し、歌集を残した。

Hirafuku Hyakusui was a Nihonga painter and tanka poet born in Kakunodate, Akita Prefecture. After studying with his father, himself a painter, he went to Tokyo and entered the studio of Kawabata Gyokusho. With fellow pupils such as Yūki Somei he formed the Musei-kai, and later, with Kaburaki Kiyokata and Somei, the Kinreisha. Taking the life of ordinary people and nature as his subjects, he painted fresh Nihonga with the flavor of sketching from life, incorporating the drawing methods of Western painting. His Yu Rang, drawn from the classics, won a special prize at the Bunten. He was also active as a poet of the Araragi school and left collections of tanka.

히라후쿠 햐쿠스이는 아키타현 가쿠노다테에서 태어난 니혼가 화가·가인이다. 화가인 아버지에게 배운 뒤 상경하여 가와바타 교쿠쇼의 문하에 들어갔다. 동문인 유키 소메이 등과 무세이카이를, 이후 가부라키 기요카타와 소메이 등과 긴레이샤를 결성하였다. 서민의 생활과 자연을 소재로 삼아 서양화의 데생도 받아들인 사생적이고 청신한 니혼가를 그렸다. 고전에서 취재한 《예양》은 분텐에서 특선을 받았다. 아라라기파 가인으로도 활동하며 가집을 남겼다.

Hirafuku Hyakusui était un peintre nihonga et poète de tanka né à Kakunodate, dans la préfecture d'Akita. Après avoir étudié auprès de son père, lui-même peintre, il se rendit à Tokyo et entra dans l'atelier de Kawabata Gyokusho. Avec des condisciples tels que Yūki Somei, il forma le Musei-kai, puis, avec Kaburaki Kiyokata et Somei, le Kinreisha. Prenant pour sujets la vie des gens du peuple et la nature, il peignit un nihonga frais, empreint du dessin d'après nature, intégrant les méthodes de dessin de la peinture occidentale. Son Yu Rang, tiré des classiques, reçut un prix spécial au Bunten. Il fut aussi actif comme poète de l'école Araragi et laissa des recueils de tanka.

Hirafuku Hyakusui war ein Nihonga-Maler und Tanka-Dichter, geboren in Kakunodate (Präfektur Akita). Nach dem Studium bei seinem Vater, der selbst Maler war, ging er nach Tokio und trat in das Atelier von Kawabata Gyokusho ein. Mit Mitschülern wie Yūki Somei gründete er die Musei-kai und später, mit Kaburaki Kiyokata und Somei, die Kinreisha. Mit dem Leben einfacher Menschen und der Natur als Motiv malte er ein frisches Nihonga mit dem Charakter des Naturstudiums und nahm dabei die Zeichenmethoden der westlichen Malerei auf. Sein aus den Klassikern geschöpftes „Yu Rang“ erhielt einen Sonderpreis der Bunten. Er war auch als Dichter der Araragi-Schule tätig und hinterließ Tanka-Sammlungen.
