比田井天来は、長野県に生まれた書家・書道教育者。中国や日本の古い名筆を手本に学ぶ「臨書（りんしょ）」を重んじ、古典に立ち返ることで書を学ぶ方法を整えた。さまざまな古碑法帖を研究し、その成果を教育にいかして多くの漢字書家を育てた。近代の書道教育の礎を築いた一人とされる。書学院を開き、後進の指導に生涯を捧げた。

Born in Nagano Prefecture, Hidai Tenrai was a calligrapher and calligraphy educator. He placed great value on the calligraphic study of old masterworks from China and Japan, modeling his hand after them, and organized a method of learning calligraphy by returning to the classics. Studying a wide range of ancient steles and copybooks, he applied the results to his teaching and trained many calligraphers of kanji calligraphy. He is regarded as one of those who laid the foundations of modern calligraphy education. He founded the Shogakuin academy and devoted his life to guiding younger generations.

히다이 덴라이는 나가노현에서 태어난 서예가이자 서예 교육자이다. 중국과 일본의 옛 명필을 본보기로 삼아 배우는 임서(臨書)를 중시하여, 고전으로 돌아가 글씨를 익히는 방법을 정립하였다. 여러 옛 비석과 법첩을 연구하고 그 성과를 교육에 활용하여 많은 한자 서예가를 길러 냈다. 근대 서예 교육의 토대를 닦은 인물 중 한 사람으로 평가된다. 쇼가쿠인을 열어 후진 지도에 평생을 바쳤다.

Né dans la préfecture de Nagano, Hidai Tenrai fut calligraphe et pédagogue de la calligraphie. Il accordait une grande importance à l'étude calligraphique des anciens chefs-d'œuvre de Chine et du Japon, qu'il prenait pour modèles, et organisa une méthode d'apprentissage fondée sur le retour aux classiques. Étudiant un large éventail de stèles anciennes et de recueils de modèles, il en appliqua les fruits à son enseignement et forma de nombreux calligraphes de la kanji calligraphy. On le considère comme l'un de ceux qui posèrent les fondements de l'enseignement moderne de la calligraphie. Il fonda l'académie Shogakuin et consacra sa vie à la formation des générations suivantes.

Se le considera uno de quienes sentaron las bases de la enseñanza moderna de la caligrafía. Fundó la academia Shogakuin y dedicó su vida a guiar a las generaciones más jóvenes.

Hidai Tenrai, geboren in der Präfektur Nagano, war Kalligraf und Kalligrafie-Pädagoge. Er maß dem kalligrafischen Studium alter Meisterwerke aus China und Japan – dem Nachschreiben dieser Vorlagen – große Bedeutung bei und systematisierte eine Methode, die Kalligrafie durch die Rückkehr zu den Klassikern zu erlernen. Aus dem Studium einer Vielzahl alter Stelen und Musterbücher zog er Ergebnisse, die er in seinen Unterricht einfließen ließ, und bildete zahlreiche Kalligrafen der Kanji-Kalligrafie aus. Er gilt als einer derjenigen, die eine wichtige Grundlage der modernen Kalligrafie-Erziehung schufen. Er gründete die Akademie Shogakuin und widmete sein Leben der Förderung der nachfolgenden Generationen.
