濱谷浩は、東京に生まれた写真家。日本海側の雪深い地方に通い、そこに暮らす人々の生活や年中行事、風土を、長い年月をかけて記録した。写真集《雪国》《裏日本》で知られ、失われゆく民俗や自然を見つめ続けた。社会的な出来事や風景写真も手がけ、国際的な写真家集団マグナムに、東洋人として初めて寄稿者として加わった。

Hamaya Hiroshi was a photographer born in Tokyo. Visiting the snow-laden regions along the Sea of Japan, he recorded over many years the lives, seasonal observances, and natural setting of the people who dwelt there. Known for the photographic books Yukiguni (Snow Country) and Ura Nihon (The Back Coast of Japan), he kept his gaze on vanishing folk customs and nature. He also undertook coverage of social events and landscape photography, and became the first Asian to join the international photographers' group Magnum as a contributor.

Hamaya Hiroshi était un photographe né à Tokyo. Se rendant dans les régions enneigées du versant de la mer du Japon, il consigna durant de longues années la vie, les fêtes saisonnières et le milieu naturel des gens qui y vivaient. Connu pour les livres photographiques Yukiguni (Le Pays de neige) et Ura Nihon (Le Japon de l'envers), il garda le regard fixé sur les coutumes populaires et la nature en voie de disparition. Il réalisa aussi des reportages d'événements sociaux et des photographies de paysage, et fut le premier Asiatique à rejoindre comme contributeur le groupe international de photographes Magnum.

Conocido por los libros fotográficos Yukiguni (País de nieve) y Ura Nihon (El reverso de Japón), mantuvo la mirada en las costumbres populares y la naturaleza que iban desapareciendo. Realizó también reportajes de acontecimientos sociales y fotografía de paisaje, y fue el primer asiático en sumarse como colaborador al grupo internacional de fotógrafos Magnum.

Bekannt für die Fotobücher Yukiguni (Schneeland) und Ura Nihon (Die rückwärtige Küste Japans), richtete er seinen Blick beständig auf verschwindende Volksbräuche und Natur. Er widmete sich auch der Berichterstattung über gesellschaftliche Ereignisse und der Landschaftsfotografie und wurde als erster Asiate Mitarbeiter der internationalen Fotografenvereinigung Magnum.
